The Phage War had been a devastating conflict for the Terran Confederacy. Even with the destruction of their terrifying, implacable foe, humanity is still reeling. Political alliances are crumbling, and their mighty fleet is in tatters. There is nothing to celebrate, even after such a complete victory.

They soon learn that there are other stellar neighbors - and they've been watching the conflict with great interest. One species comes with an offer of friendship and alliance, but humanity is weary and distrustful, their only interactions with aliens having resulted in the near eradication of their kind.

Before the ashes of war have been fully swept away, Captain Celesta Wright is dispatched to the Frontier with a small taskforce to investigate a mysterious signal while the Confederacy struggles to hold itself together. A partnership with this new species could help accelerate the recovery effort, but is the offer too good to be true? Can humanity risk another fight with an advanced alien species right on the heels of the bloodiest war that had ever been waged?

New Frontiers is the first book of the Expansion Wars Trilogy, an all-new adventure in the Black Fleet universe.

New Frontiers The Expansion Wars Trilogy Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Joshua Dalzelle Mark Boyett Podium Publishing Books

I greatly enjoyed the first trilogy based in this universe he has created and was not disappointed with his decision to continue the saga. What Like the most is how he weaves some slight Space Opera aspects (i.e. technology that does not exist;yet) in with what real warfare in space would entail. Specifically the vast distances involved and how they enforce strategic moves that require hours ans sometimes days to play out. His characters are just as believable in this new book as they were in his first set of three. I highly recommend this book (and his first three also) to anyone who enjoys military science fiction that is fast paced and well written.

New Frontiers The Expansion Wars Trilogy Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Joshua Dalzelle Mark Boyett Podium Publishing Books Reviews

This series just keeps getting better and better!!! It changes and evolves and is a new different story each time! I love it and it only gets better when you read it a second time. Do yourself a favor and add the Audible narration and hear this too!!! It's worth it to support the author to create great reads like this. Don't forget to put up some stars and review to show your support!!!
This is a very good Sci-Fi military story and it is my favorite genre to read. I liked this book a lot as it is full of action, science and strategies. Humans have just won the war against the Phage, just barely. Now they are meeting two new alien species. Are they friends, or foes……

Joshua Dalzelle is a good author and he writes entertaining books. I like his quality of character development and his use of science. It makes the story more interesting for me as I get involved in the characters and learn to love or hate them.

I enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in the series. I rated this one at 5 stars.
Good start to the new series (which is a continuation of the Black Fleet Trilogy). I like the first series and was happy to see that the author has started a new series in the same universe. This first book sets up the new story line well - I really enjoyed reading it and will be waiting on the next book in the series. In the back of this book, the author talks a little about where this series is going and it sounds as if it will be as good a story arc as the previous series.
Perhaps I waited too long--it took some time for me to recall the characters and I basically treated the read as a blank slate start. There is sufficient action in the read to keep one's interest, however, the political angle was tiresome at times and slowed the pace of the read. I like this author and don't believe this is one of his better pieces of work. I found myself frustrated by the author's frequent violation of the show me, don't tell me rule of good story telling.
I have purchased the second book in the series and intend on giving the author a second try.
Interesting developments. This book follows in the "Black Fleet" universe. It help to have read the first series but is not necessary. Wolfe is retired and much of this story focuses on his former XO now Senior Captain Celesta Wright. I like the change of perspective and the politics behind the war. Dazelle says in the afterword that he tried not to interject his political views into the story but it does make room for thoughtful consideration.

While I enjoyed the 'end of humanity' desperation of "Black Fleet Trilogy" the not so desperate challenge of the "Expansion Wars" leaves a lot more opportunity for characters to develop. There is still plenty of action, but a lot more interaction as well.
Always a good book no matter which series it is. Mr. Dalzelle has a knack of making the book he writes exciting while giving you characters you can understand and enough technology that it does not get boring. I am waiting for the next in this series as I am waiting on the next in his other series Omega Force
While this is Book One of a new trilogy, I would very advice readers to start with the Black Fleet trilogy which this titles continues, even if the story takes place some 4-5 years after the end of the war against the Phage.

While the Phage is dead, the Confederation has imploded, with over half of the planets seceding. What is left of it, together with about half of the Fleet, gets contacted by yet another Alien species apparently seeking help against a mysterious enemy.
Once again, the new Federation gets involved in a conflict, with some exciting space battles including a rather great attack on the Federation’s new capital planet and Fleet headquarters. These are perhaps among the book’s better parts.

As mentioned by the author, Captain Blake, although present in the book, is not the main character and hero of this story. This role belongs to his former second in command Captain Celesta Wright who has inherited command of a squadron of destroyers. Some of the characters present in the previous trilogy, such as Admiral Marcum, secret agent Pike and his arch-politician boss who has now become the President of the new Federation.

Pure action-filled military science fiction, with an emphasis of (good) space battles but not much on context and world-building and somewhat limited dialogues. Nevertheless, the result is rather easy to read and entertaining. Just about worth stars as a result, because I did like it.
